Eight years ago, we opened a shoe store in Winnipeg, Manitoba, called “Soul Shoes“. A year after opening the store, we had seen many people come through our door to buy new shoes, boots, and accessories. As people continuously acquired new shoes, (some people a few pairs at time), we started to wonder what happened to all of the old shoes people had sitting around in their closets.

After our first year of business, we started thinking about the ways in which we could give back to the community that had helped get us off the ground. Being from an extreme climate, we realized that many people in the city didn’t have sufficient winter footwear to keep their feet warm, as they faced adversity through six months of winter each year.

So seven years ago, we decided to address this problem head on, and established the “Shoe Your Spirit” campaign. To launch this annual shoe drive, we partnered with Koats for Kids,” an initiative of United Way, and collected gently worn winter footwear over the month of December. We then distributed the boots to people in need throughout the city of Winnipeg. To date, the shoe drive has been successful each season, having distributed more than 5000 pairs of winter footwear into the community.

This year, our goal is ambitious, but we know we can achieve it with the support of people in our great city.

Winnipeger’s; we need your help.

We are set out to collect 10,000 pairs!!!
